By Shekhar: When life gets busy and the mind feels tired, it starts searching for peace. In such moments, faith becomes a guiding light, as if God Himself is calling from within. I felt this call again and again. Thoughts of a sacred place kept coming to my mind, but I kept ignoring them with excuses. One day, that inner voice became too strong to ignore, and I felt that Lord Jagannath was calling me. With surrender in my heart, I began my journey. When I reached there, it felt like my soul had finally found peace and its true home.

Thial village is not just an ordinary place; it is a living symbol of faith, history, and tradition. At its heart stands the ancient and miraculous JAGANNATH SWAMI MANDIR, nestled in the mountains like a silent witness of time. Even after centuries, its spiritual power and beauty remain unchanged.

It is believed that this JAGANNATH SWAMI MANDIR holds special importance after Jagannath Puri, as the idol here was brought from Puri itself. According to local history, in the 14th century, a Brahmin named Vasudev came from Punjab and performed deep meditation in these hills. Blessed by Lord Shiva, he later became the royal priest of the local king.

Generations later, one of his descendants, a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, went on a pilgrimage to Jagannath Puri. There, while meditating near the sea, he witnessed a divine moment—the sacred idol of Lord Jagannath floating in the waves. With deep faith and courage, he brought the idol out of the sea and carried it all the way to Thial village.

When he told the villagers about the idol, they doubted him. To test his truth, they asked him to bring rain in extreme heat. With sincere prayer, he called upon God, and suddenly the sky filled with clouds and heavy rain began. This miracle strengthened the faith of the people.

After this, the idea of building the JAGANNATH SWAMI MANDIR took shape. Despite financial difficulties, a devoted woman named Maltu Shyani from Ramnagar took the responsibility. Construction began in 1822 and after years of effort, the grand JAGANNATH SWAMI MANDIR was completed. Priests from Kashi and Jagannath Puri were invited for proper rituals, and the temple’s care was given to Vasudev’s family.

Even today, people believe that visiting this JAGANNATH SWAMI MANDIR gives the same blessings as visiting Jagannath Puri. The villagers have deep faith and seek God’s guidance in every important step of their lives. It is also believed that divine grace protected the village even during difficult times like the COVID pandemic.

Festivals like Janmashtami are celebrated with great devotion at the JAGANNATH SWAMI MANDIR. Idols are beautifully decorated, processions are held, and a large community feast brings people together. Devotees from far and wide visit, and many feel a strong desire to return again.
